Prosthetic eye implant

What is a prosthetic eye and how is it made?

It is a part made of safe material for the inner tissue of the eye, it is used to fill the eye cavity, to prevent developmental disorders, to protect the open area from external factors, supplement the normal growth of the bones around the eye, and to fill the eye cavity in people who have lost their eye due to various reasons (accident, tumor, glaucoma, etc.) or congenital.

The prosthetic eyes are fully compatible with the human body and can be moved according to the movement of the eye muscles if they are intact.

What are the types of eye prosthesis?

The type of prosthetic eye is completely determined according to the budget and needs of the person and is divided into

Customized prosthetic eye (moving prosthetic eye)

They are artificial eyes prepared according to the dimensions of the orbit of the patient who needs a prosthesis. The patient’s eye color, blood density, iris size, eyelid opening and the data is taken and prepared to exactly match the vision eye

Prosthetic eye ready to use (prosthetic eye from factory)

It is a type of prosthetic that is prepared in different sizes (small, medium, large) with molds prepared in advance, with little movement, and it is not enough for cosmetic reasons

Movement of the prosthetic eyes

The range of movement is wide in prosthetic eyes, especially the ones which are designed for a person, if there is no loss of strength in the eye muscles, the prosthesis is designed to completely fit the muscles of the orbit, so the movement of the muscles is strongly reflected in the prosthesis

Vital Acrylic Prosthetic Eye

Since bio-acrylic is obtained from 100% natural materials, it is a healthy, homogeneous, practical, durable material that is fully compatible with the human body. Bio-acrylic prosthetics last longer and are more hygienic than porcelain artificial eyes

Stages of creating the moving eye prosthesis

First, images of the patient’s eye color are captured using a high-resolution camera and then transferred to digital media. Eye color and density are selected and applied using a computer. This method makes it possible to dye the eye at a more convenient, shorter and accurate time.

Then the orbit is modeled with special molding techniques. The point of symmetry (focus) of the cornea is determined and if there is no infection or protrusion in the orbit after 2-3 days with mutual repetition, the patient applies the artificial eye. During these applications, the patient does not feel any discomfort like stiffness.

Characteristics of the colored prosthetic eye

The bio-acrylic we use is medical acrylic and compatible with the human body, there is absolutely no risk of deterioration. Thanks to the pigments used in eye paint, there is no deterioration in color. Modifications can be done in the prosthesis (enlargement or reduction). Since it’s not an allergic material or structure, it can be used for years without losing its properties.

Commonly asked questions about prosthetic eye implants

Any patient who has lost his sight due to the loss of his eye (globe) and has an empty orbit this surgery is suitable for him

Although the cleaning of the prosthetic eye depends on the patient’s condition, it is statistically sufficient to remove it once a month and clean it with warm water and baby shampoo

Our recommendation is to sleep with the prosthesis at night

With the prosthetic eye, you can enter the sea, the pool, take a shower and even play sports

There is always the possibility that there will be a small amount of bumps in the prosthetic eye. If the prosthesis you are using does not fit the eye perfectly, developing bumps is usually high

One month after the surgery, the eye socket will be suitable for the use of the prosthesis as the edema of the eye socket will be reduced
